Volkswagen Polo GTI Test Drive

Dec 30. 2019  As I was waiting for the Volkswagen Tiguan I  was able to drive this cute little number Polo GTI. What is a GTI or GTi! (Grand Tourer Injection or Grand Turismo Injection) which basically more powerful machine. Trust you will love this machine once your behind this machine.

The model I drove was 1.5L TDI Engine, 4-Cylinder In-line with max power PS(kW) @rpm 90(66)@ 4200  and max torque Nm@rpm 230 @ 1500-2500 which was quite powerful for a small hatchback or as they call it the hot hatch. I truly enjoyed driving this vehicle  compared to the standard polo which comes with 2 variant  petrol variant & Diesel variant which is 1L MPI Engine, 3-Cylinder In-line  max power PS(kW) @rpm 76 (56) @ 6200  and max torque [Nm@rpm) 95 @ 3000-4300

It was quite odd to me when I checked their website they had the diesel variant 1.5L TDI Engine, 4-Cylinder In-line with max power PS(kW) @rpm90(66)@ 4200 and max torque [Nm@rpm) 230 @ 1500-2500 which was similar to the polo GT variant which I drove. I guess the with some minor badging on the front grille and sides with red stitching on the leather inside, which gives it more a sporty feel. The model which I got to test drive was 2019 and we are expecting the 2020 Model of the Volkswagen Polo which will be the 6th generation car in India. 2020 model would be based on the MQB platform. VW group has decided to localise this modular platform for India. Localisation might also be accompanied with some re-engineering of the flexible architecture on which cars like the sixth-gen Polo.

You must be wondering what is the MQB platform which basically means the company's strategy for sharing the modular design construction of it transverse, front-engine front-wheel-drive layout  (optional front-engine, four-wheel-drive layout) automobile which begun with Polo variant.

NCAPNew Car Assessment Program (NCAP) is a government car safety program tasked with evaluating new automobile designs for performance against various safety threats.

According to NCAP Rating Polo with two airbags managed a solid 4-star crash test rating (12.54/17). Polo with airbags managed a marginally higher 29.91/49, as compared to the 26.97 of the model without the safety feature. Remember, this was back in 2014 and the Polo at the time didn’t even get ABS, Isofix child seat mounts and seat-belt reminders as standard. The top-spec Volkswagen Polo GT TSI on sale in India now gets features like traction control, ESC, hill-start assists and rear parking sensors.

What does this mean to the customer?  It might generally mean better value for money and the cost of the part might considerably go down. we might also see a slight reduction in pricing of these vehicles as these vehicles are mass-produced and the parts would be shared across different models in Volkswagen & Skoda

I wouldn't want to get into the spec as this freely available on another auto website. My first impressions driving this vehicle that it was a pure masterpiece of german engineering. I truly enjoyed driving this vehicle.  The handling and performance of the car were fantastic. This vehicle which I drove comes with a hefty price of 11 lakhs.  Would you go for it?  I would love to go for a more in-depth review on all the vehicles I have got the opportunity to test drive.

Yes, it might sound too expensive but you got to remember this is the GTI vairant, more power and more peppier.
