Volkswagen Tiguan Test Drive

Dec 30, 2019, As I was passing through Nerul, I came across the Volkswagon showroom and I was motivated to go into it and try out the 2019 Tiguan. Volkswagen entry into the SUV segment. This 5 seater SUV which was introduced but discontinued in 2018 and relaunched in 2019 as Tiguan SUV in the country priced at ₹ 33.12 lakh (ex-showroom, India). This will compete with the likes of the Honda CR-V, Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and even the Mahindra Alturas G4

The Volkswagen Tiguan will be a petrol model powered by a turbocharged 2-litre TSI engine offering a power output of 141bhp@4000rpm and Torque of 340Nm @1750-2750rpm. It comes mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission as standard. Volkswagen is also providing the 4-Wheel drive option for the SUV. The Volkswagen Tiguan mileage is 16.65 kmpl. There will be two variants which will be available, the comfortline & the Highline. the one I tested was the Highline.

I was pondering on what does the Tiguan actually mean so I googled it, this is what came as in the search result.  Volkswagen Tiguan - (pronounced [ˈtiːɡu̯aːn]) is a portmanteau of the German words Tiger ("tiger") and Leguan ("iguana").  In my test driving experience, I found the car to be extremely luxurious which is anticipated by any german manufacturer.

This SUV which I drove was exceptionally comfortable and it did make me feel luxurious. Since it was a CBU (completely built unit) as the sales representative informed me. Currently, this model was not been manufactured in India ( update received as of Dec 2019). I believe if they start manufacturing this model in India the cost can be considerably reduced. But for now, we will have to wait and watch and see how the market accepts this Tiger/Iguana.

With a hefty price tag around 33 lakh ie at the showroom, on-road it might well go up to 34 lakh to 35 lakhs. Keeping in mind that the cost of maintaining german engineering won't be light on your wallet. They will definitely cost you an arm and leg. This SUV might not fully capable to be called a true offroader, unlike their competition Toyota Fortuner. Maybe in the future, if I get to do an in-depth comparison of these two vehicles I could provide you with more insight into whether the Tiguan is true offroader or not.

Thank you once again for this opportunity and privilege to let me test drive this SUV.
