Beginning of 2019 I had a strong desire to test drive the BMW every time I used to pass by the showroom I would desire to want to test drive the same but I would never have the courage to walk up to the entrance of BMW. I guess my fears would hold me back from achieving my aim of wanting to test drive the car.
Well, I have been test-driving cars and motorcycle since 2015 and my first car was the Honda Jazz. I still remember it like it was yesterday. when I went into the showroom and asked the service representative. I would like to test drive the car and he pounced on me with questions such when would you like to buy this car? what is the loan amount? what is my daily commute time? To which I responded I really wanted to test drive the car, I have been wanting to review cars and write about them for a very long time and I did not know how to begin so I decided I will take the first step of actually test driving a car. Fast forward 2020 it has been 5 years in the making and I have been testing driving cars yet I have never got to actually sitting down and writing my own review about the cars I have test drove.
Like they say there is always beginning for everything. So coming back the story at hand, one of my Church friends Justin had insisted that I should take the leap of faith and just go and ask for the test-driving opportunity. Actually, I was quite confident till the time I came to the entrance of BMW and my knees started shaking, I quite literally forgot how to speak English and it was quite nerve-wracking, yet I pushed forward and I entered, I initially got the awkward stare from the security, as I passed them to my amazement, I met Yogesh, BMW Location head but at the time I wasn't sure about anything, I just spilled my guts and told him about my strong desire about wanting to test drive BMW, to which he asked me which model and I was for a second I was in a state of shock since I wasn't prepared for that answer. I had gone with so many queries and doubts in my mind that I totally forgot about which car I actually wanted to test drive.
I got the opportunity to test drive all-new BMW 320d a few months back. some pics are shown below.
I have always been a fan of the BMW. Especially the new design which makes it more alluring. The kidney grille has been ever-changing as you see the image below. It just so an iconic image of the BMW and over the years the design has just got more captivating.
BMW 320d is powered by 2.0-litre diesel engine 190hp and 400Nm. It might sound familiar to its predecessors but in fact, this unit comes with twin sequential turbo which replaces the swing twin-scroll turbo making this more meaningful at lower speeds and definitely because of its 2.0-litre diesel engine it has a lot of power in hand when you need to step on the accelerator.
The Interior is always elegant. German engineering at its best. What I liked was the NVH ( Noise vibration & harness levels ) was quite low. I hardly could hear the road noise which was a good thing, unlike the other cars where you greeted with all sorts of noise in the cabin. The cabin was plush and makes you feel pampered. The elegant colouring schema. Definitely since this a more premium car the kind of crowd which is attracted is also a class apart. The ride quality was pretty good. Since it was a short test drive I was unable to test it completely. In my opinion from what I have test drove other cars, the road conditions, especially in Mumbai, will take a toll on the car and you're bound to have some squeaks down the line as you drive the car. This is my belief and I can be wrong.
I would love to do an in-depth review of the same where I could understand from the BMW perspective and ability to analyze and study how the consumers can be benefited from this during their purchase. But for now, BMW 3 Series prices begin at 41.40 Lakh with 320 d diesel variant at around 40.69 for luxury line trim. BMW 330i Msport is also range-topper which could cost around 48 lakhs which has been priced competitively to the others in their segment such as the Mercedes, Audi, Jaguar.
I really did enjoy the drive although it was a short ride. Nevertheless, it was a dream come true which happened in the first week of January of 2020. Thank you Infinity BMW for this opportunity and would love to test drive the other BMW in the line-up.
